Fuji Station north exit with construction board and Big Echo lights

Visited: Saturday, August 30, 2025
Photos and descriptions reflect conditions that night.

Heading for a cooler spot in Nagano, not too far from Tokyo — north through Shizuoka, then Yamanashi. Same night as Numazu, I moved on to Fuji. Population 245,202 (August 1, 2025). At 10:16 p.m. I came out the north exit of JR Fuji Station.

The station front is under a big redevelopment; parts of the street are closed off. I remembered a slightly shady, interesting strip here, so the change surprised me — and stung a little. Completion is said to be about five years out. Being Saturday, groups out drinking were easy to spot; it still felt like a weekend.

Around the Station

Stairs on the platform and a train with an orange stripe

Wide stairs lit white. Vending machines on the right; beyond a chain fence, a train with an orange stripe. Someone in a white dress walks toward me. Still people on the platform.

Temporary fencing, lockers, and vending machines

Corrugated fencing on the left. Lockers and vending machines on the right. Tactile paving toward the stairs. Concrete beams overhead — out toward the street.

People on a crosswalk under a green pedestrian signal

A man in a white hat crosses; a younger group behind him. Covered walk on the left. Green signal light on the asphalt. Right outside the station.

Snack Misty sign and colored lights under the awning

AXIS COURT 富士本科 in stone. Blue スナック Misty. Red, blue, green bulbs on the ceiling; tile reflecting them. A white car with headlights on the road.

Pink and blue shutters along a covered walk

Shutters after closing — pink and blue, then white. A bus-stop board on the right. A small figure far ahead. Footsteps carry under the roof.

Yellow No Entry sign and a board to use the other sidewalk

立入禁止 in yellow. 反対側の歩道を使用してください beside it. A van’s lights are hard; a blue information board on the walk. Construction splits the path.

Oden lantern and a lit doorway

An おでん lantern on the right. Two people by a bright door. White van and parking on the left. A colorful sign farther on. A thin street with patches of food light.

Woman holding a phone before a bright white board

A yellow folding bike. 酒処 noren on the left; a woman in white frames a shot of a bright blank board. The light hits her face.

Craft beer signs and Big Echo in the distance

Three women walk left. CRAFT BEER and サッポロビール on the right. Red カラオケ BIG ECHO ahead. Shop light along the asphalt.

Narrow alley with neon shop signs

Brick paving. Colored signs on the left, trees on the right. Someone on the steps. Quiet bar street, late.

Shuttered corner and a red traffic light

Zebra stripes take a purple cast. Brown and white shutters. Red signal and a lit bus shelter. The corner is still; little traffic.

Dark shuttered street and car headlights

Closed shops on the left. A vertical お茶のりよ sign ahead. Headlights on the road to the right. Half the street falls into shadow.

North-exit rotary works with red lights behind sheeting

Red glow behind plastic sheeting. A white board: 北口ロータリー — general cars no longer enter. Station windows white at the end of the dark path. The north-exit works still show at night.
