Photos and descriptions reflect conditions that night.

Last night of the Osaka–Nagoya trip. I’d come for the Expo, and to try a bike on public transit. I hadn’t shot much in Osaka. The night before was Osu Kannon’s arcades; this evening, the west side of Nagoya Station, the Taiko-dori exit (太閤通口). Population 2,337,864 (September 1, 2025). 8:57 p.m.

Around the Taiko exit, the fencing kept going. It felt like redevelopment for the Chuo Shinkansen maglev, and the slightly shady character I remembered was mostly gone. Ekinishi Ginza (駅西銀座) still had bar light, with people gathered outside.

Around the Station

Shinkansen viaduct above a taxi rank and a white car

Yellow windows on the viaduct, a shinkansen passing. Taxis wait below — one lamp reads 名鉄名古屋タクシー — and a white car pulls left.

Bic Camera, the JR highway bus terminal, and a clock on a silver arch

Bic Camera on the left, the JR highway bus terminal on the right. A red clock face on a silver arch, suitcases underneath.

Construction fencing and a sign toward the Taiko-dori exit

Orange fencing blocks the walk. From July 7, 2025, the board says, until further notice — arrow toward 太閤通口. A manga-cafe sign reads 24H.

Abura-soba shopfront and walkers on the sidewalk

Abura-soba noren on the right, three people coming toward me. A scooter sits with its headlight on.

Raiko ramen and the Akahige pharmacy sign

Past the bins, 中華そば 雷友. Shopping bags, a child in green. あかひげ薬局 on the left.

Excavator behind site netting and two walkers on a green path

The path squeezes down. Site netting, a yellow excavator behind it. Two people in coats on the green walk.

Red Noritake-ten lantern and a stack of bicycles

Bicycles stacked on the bricks. A red lantern: 則武店. Two men in the doorway.

Cardboard stacks, a white van, and people crouched under lights

Cardboard against the wall, a white van at the curb. Under the colored bulbs, several people crouch over something.

Crowd at a food stall, yakiniku sign farther down

Past the gate, a stall on a narrow street. People at the counter, others talking. A vertical 国産牛焼肉 sign.

Miso ton-chan neon and a Korean restaurant sign

Blue 味噌とんちゃん neon beside a Korean restaurant sign. A skewer board on the sidewalk, a big yakiniku board facing the road.

Cones along the sidewalk and a woman on her phone

Cones along the walk. A woman on her phone, against a pole. Meitetsu Kyosho Parking’s board is lit; an APA sign farther off.

Outdoor tables under an Apamanshop awning

Tables under the awning. Someone in a black T-shirt passes the Apamanshop sign, then a red car and the round 春日亭 board.

Gabunomi on the corner and a man holding tissues

Around the corner, ガブ飲み, bare bulbs on the eaves. A man at the crossing with a stack of tissues. Someone in black steps into the road.

A group gathered outside a beer sign

Nearly ten people in front of a beer sign. A woman inside looks out. A yakiniku board above, a clinic sign on the second floor.

Seven-Eleven, Denny’s, and the ESCA entrance beyond

Seven-Eleven beside Denny’s. A man at the cigarette machine, a younger group talking. The white ESCA entrance — the corner back toward the underground mall.

Wet crosswalk in front of the arrivals canopy

Wet asphalt, the zebra catching light. Men on the right, the arrivals canopy and a parking P ahead. Tower windows still on.

Travelers pulling suitcases under the station canopy

Suitcases in a line under the steel canopy — white, green, black. Leaves overhead, the viaduct behind. At the edge, people sit with bags on the ground.
